Access Statement

Pre Arrival

  • There is a bus stop from the City Centre outside Imphal Barracks which is just 500 yards away going into the City of York.
  • The main York train station is 10-15 minutes away by car. There is a station based taxi service that has accessible taxis if required.
  • We have a website and internet access is available via a WiFi connection.

Arrival and Car Parking

  • We are situated on a large corner site with frontage to Fulford Road and with entry gates and also exit gates onto Derwent Road.
  • We have a large enclosed car park with marked parking bays. The car park can accommodate up to 14 cars. The surface is tarmac to the side of the house and gravelled to the front. There is ample room for all guest’s cars.
  • Midway House is a large detached Victorian Villa built in 1897 with ground floor, first floor and second floor accommodation.
  • We can assist guests’ with luggage.
  • York City Centre is a 20 minute walk from the Bed and Breakfast via the Riverside.
  • We have a bus stop on the opposite side of Fulford Road for easy access to the City.

Main Entrance and Reception

  • The main entrance of the Bed and Breakfast has two steps 9cm and 16cm high.
  • The front door is 89cm wide.
  • On entry into our home there is a Hallway measuring between 140cm and 78 cm wide and leading up to our Reception desk.

Public Areas - General (internal)

  • The entrance Hall to our Ground floor rooms, namely Ground floor bedroom, Guest’s Lounge and Dining room is between 140cm and 78 cm wide.
  • The hallway has a good colour contrast and is well lit.
  • The flooring in the ground floor hallway is carpeted.
  • The covering on stairs and upstairs corridors is short pile.
  • There are 20 steps to the first floor landing, split into four sections. The steps are 16cm high, 27cm deep and 88cm wide.
  • There are a further 16 steps to the second floor rooms and these are 20cm high, 25cm deep and 85cm wide.

Public Areas - W.C.

  • We do not have a public W.C. all rooms are en suite with the exception of two which share a landing bathroom and w.c.

Dining Room and Guest Lounge.

  • Both of these are situated on the ground floor. The door widths for both rooms are the same at 83cm.
  • Breakfast is served in the dining room on the ground floor. There are no steps.
  • Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.
  • Tables have under space of 72cm high and by 76cm to 108cm wide.
  • The guest lounge has a variety of seating options including two 2 seat settees and an upright leather armchair. Also available is a dining table and 6 dining chairs.

Bedrooms

  • 10 of our 12 bedrooms have en suite facilities and are all individually furnished but detailed here as an example is the ground floor room. Please call if more detailed information is required.
  • Main door width is 78 cm.
  • Most rooms will offer more than 1 metre access from at least one side of the bed.
  • Furniture is moveable by prior arrangement.
  • Beds are from 50 cm high.
  • Televisions have remote controls.
  • Fitted short pile carpet on the floor.

Ground Floor en suite

  • Door width is 58cm with outward opening.
  • There is a step of 25cm into the shower cubicle which is 78 cm wide and 72 cm in depth.
  • The Basin is flat fronted and 83cm high, it stands on a pedestal.
  • The toilet is 40cm high and with free space of 30cm on either side. There is a grab rail fitted to the wall.
  • Good colour contrast of flooring, wall, fittings and fixtures.

Grounds and Gardens

  • We have a small private garden which is not available for guests’.

Additional Information

  • Mobile phone reception is good.
  • There are fire extinguishers on all landings.
  • The main evacuation route is through the front door and fire sirens sound continuously when evacuation is needed. If you require more assistance when evacuating please notify us on arrival and we will ensure you are evacuated safely. e.g. hearing impairment.
  • All rooms have smoke detectors fitted and 24 hour safety lighting is in place on all stairs and landings.
  • We are strictly a no smoking building throughout. Smoking is allowed in the car park.
  • Medication/food can be placed into our main fridge on request (not available 24 hours).

  • At present the only plans in place will be the ongoing maintenance and refurbishment of rooms so as to maintain high standards of accommodation.
